session info and what to wear

Clothing choices are a very important piece of your session. Here are some ideas to help parents determine the best duds for their darlings. But please don't stress too much! Simplicity can go a long way as well. I'm here to help if you need it!

TIP : Pick an outfit for the youngest of your crew, or mom. Pull colors from their outfit for everyone else.

Bouncing Babies

- Soft or Bright Solids

- Simple styles like onesies are classic

- Diaper cover only

- Birthday suite (naked)

AVOID : Fancy clothes (collars, shoes, giant headbands) - these compete for attention with the baby

Fabulous Family

- Stick to a color palette of 3-4 complimentary colors

- Layers are flattering and a way to show personality

- Shoes are optional

- Non-glare glasses will keep glare at bay

AVOID : Everyone wearing the same outfit

TIP : Match your clothing colors to your home decor where your art will be hanging

Crafty Kids

- Layered looks are great

- Brights and fun prints

- Accessories : hats, scarves, chunky bracelets

- Clothes should be fitted, not baggy

- Bare feet or fun shoes

AVOID : Huge logos that date the image and distract the eye

IT'S A DATE!

WHAT TO EXPECT THE DAY OF YOUR SESSION ..... LET'S HAVE SOME FUN!

LOCATION

We will discuss where you would like to have your session. We might meet at your home, the local playground or park, or downtown. Please remember that location is NOT a big concern. Most importantly, we want your family to be relaxed and at ease.

FUN IS NOT OPTIONAL

This shoot will be full-on fun, complete with laughs, hugs, play time and plenty of tickling. There's no manufacturing a good time; when you're with loved ones, exuberance and spontaneity take over for the most natural, exciting images.

time flies

Please allow for one to one and a half hours for our shoot. This will enable me to get the perfect amount of images with variety and allow for an outfit change if desired.

fast friends

I work quickly capturing  natural images so photography doesn't feel like a chore to even the most cynical toddler. Piper+Claire delights in doing whatever it takes to get the smiles and connections that you are after.

treats for the sweets

Feel free to bring snacks or treats to give your little one a break. Be mindful what you bring, you don't want to ruin that cute top ... OR, maybe you are after a messy look? No problem either way.

rain, rain, go away

Outdoor shoots offer great light and surroundings for your precious portraits. But if Mother Nature threatens to rain on our parade, don't worry, there are always options. We will reschedule or we can always hop inside!

A final note on clothing .....

I have always enjoyed photographing children and their families in their own element. My best advice is to think about what makes your family comfortable. Never try to dress them for a photo session in a way that is going to make them uncomfortable.

It's always fun to take something that your child is really into right now and put them into a contrasting element, like I did in the photo here. At this point in her life, her favorite thing to do is swim, so I got some swimming gear and put her in a field. In the other photo in the gallery, I added socks and roller skates to add some flair, color, and fun, and put her on a country road. I love the outcome!

I equally like to dress the kids in something very simple and timeless. Some of my favorite photos of my kids are the unplanned ones when they are just in their own natural element with no planned clothing choices or guidance. Take a look around and think about what you want and of course, contact me with any questions.
